Gabrielle's HCDE 548 (formerly 598) Digital Fabrication Page

My name is Gabrielle. I'm a third year HCDE PhD student. I'm excited about this class! I want to learn how to be a more comfortable maker --and make things such as this beautiful candle.

598 - Assignment 1: Edible Crystals

Assignment 1 was a series of tiny crystal cookie cutters.

598 - Assignment 2: Playing with the slicer

Assignment 2 was the beginning of a 3D printed objects library.

598 - Assignment 3: Many clips & nested bowls

Assignment 3 was a series of clips + a few nested objects.

598 - Assignments 4/5: Hands & lamps

For assignment 4 and 5 I fused two meshy hands and got started on a lamp.

598 - Assignment 6: Molding wax candles

For assignment 6 I made a silicon mold and beeswax candles.

598 - Assignment 7/Final Project: Body poetry

For my final project I want to make a 3D printed wearable to be used in a dance performance.

548 - Assignment 1/Making shoes

For this assignment I made a pair of babouches in skaï.

548 - Assignment 2/Sensing position

For this assignment I made a pressure sensor that controls the radius and height of a cylinder in Rhino.

548 - Assignment 3/Mechanism & virtual mechanism

For this assignment I made a scissor lift out of cardboard and instrumented it with my sensor. I then tried to re-create it in Rhino/GH.

548 - Assignment 4/Making a piece of furniture

For this assignment, I made a piece of furniture with the shopbot!

548 - Assignment 5/Soldering PCBs: A Tale of Failure and Learning

For this assignment, I learned a lot of things about myself and milling PCBs.

548 - Assignment 6/Designing PCB

For this assignment, I learned how to design PCB, surface mount solder, program a PCB and change an endmill very quickly.

548 - Assignment 7/Drive Trains

For this assignment, I made a rack and pinion mechanism actuated by a continuous servo.

548 - Assignment 8/Comms

For this assignment, we had to design and make a board that communicates with a computer using serial.

548 - Final project/Motion Box

For the final project, I made a modular motion-activated light using resin casting, CNC milling, 3D printing, PCB making, and a hand drill.
